What is a CLT?

Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are local organisations set up and run by ordinary people to develop and manage homes, as well as other assets important to that community, like community enterprises, food growing or workspaces. The CLT’s main task is to make sure these homes are genuinely affordable, based on what people actually earn in their area, not just for now but for every future occupier.

The National Community Land Trust Network have produced this short video to give a better understanding of how a CLT works and who can get involved and benefit from their initiatives. They have schemes available with funds and experts advice to support the first stages of any new CLT.

The Community Land Trust Network has a number of resources giving more information about community land trusts and the scope of what they can do.
